Sanford, FL - Last night, September 22, the US House of Representatives passed several bills that will dramatically fund local police departments across the country and bolster technology and training for our law enforcement professionals.
The passage of these pieces of legislation is a very welcome development as we seek to give police departments the tools and resources to carry out their vital mission to protect and serve our communities.
The investment in technology and enhanced training will go a long way in helping the men and women of the various departments to better carry out their duties and hopefully will lessen tensions between police departments and some communities across the United States.
While these pieces of legislation did not include certain desirable provisions in other bills, their passage is nevertheless welcomed by all law-abiding citizens of goodwill who want to see crime brought under control.
It is my hope that the investments, especially in training, will yield better community-police relations, because without the support of the public at large, our police officers cannot effectively carry out their critical mission.
It is my hope that the Senate will move quickly to take up and pass these pieces of legislation, which had bipartisan support in the House so that funding can begin to flow to the various police departments as soon as possible.
