Once again students, teachers and other school personnel faced the prospect of school violence with a student bringing a gun to school at the Winter Park High school.
Thanks to the alert reaction of Fortify Florida, the situation was defused without incident.
But it once again brings into sharp focus that the easy access to guns by people who should not have them could have led to tragedy. We need to continue to advocate for better gun safety and to ensure that people who should not have guns do not come into possession of them.
I want to commend the Winter Park police department for their quick response and their working with the school resource officers to bring the situation under control without any one being hurt.
Schools must be a safe place for our children and my hope is that solutions to the easy access to guns will be found with the expansion of the bipartisan Common sense gun reform.
